Job Summary: The 988 and Referral Clinician is responsible for ensuring timely triage, coordination, and admission for referrals from local and regional referral sources for adults and children needing Crisis Stabilization and Emergency Services. This position supports various functions to include processing hospital Baker Act referrals, promoting timely response and admission acceptance. The individual also supports answering 988 crisis line calls with backup support from Emergency Services clinicians. This position enhances service availability by ensuring that Baker Act referrals remain within county lines whenever possible. This clinician will also support timely financial authorization and verification processes to ensure the accuracy of insurance information, assist with client admission financial checks, and complete daily and weekly tracking reports to maintain operational and financial accountability.
Key Responsibilities:
Crisis Intervention & Referral Management
- Manage 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline calls during assigned shifts.
- Review and process incoming Baker Act referrals from hospitals and law enforcement.
- Coordinate and track referrals using CarePort and EPIC systems.
- Complete 988 reports and ensure accurate documentation.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of community crisis resources.
Community & Hospital Collaboration
- Serve as a liaison between DLC and Baker Act facilities, hospitals, and law enforcement.
- Establish and maintain strong partnerships to retain referrals within Collier County.
- Communicate with hospital discharge planners and emergency departments.
- Build trust and consistency through professional representation.
Administrative & Financial Accountability
- Support financial verification and authorization processes and ensure accuracy of insurance information.
- Assist with client admission financial checks and documentation.
- Complete daily and weekly tracking reports ensuring timely submission.
Training, Communication, and Team Collaboration
- Crosstrain with other designated clinical and administrative support staff for seamless service delivery.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and improvement initiatives.
- Maintain strong communication with other shifts and teams as assigned.
- Support on-call coverage coordination as needed.

Knowledge and Skills
- Staying compliant on all training and immunizations = Required
- Ability to pass Level II DCF Mental Health Fingerprinting, Drug Screen and Local Criminal Check = Required
Physical Requirements: This position requires a mix of physical activities throughout the workday. Duties involve periods of standing, sitting, and walking, often across various areas of the site. The role also includes tasks that may require bending, reaching, and other physical movements. Candidates must be able to occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 10 pounds. A reasonable level of physical stamina and mobility is necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of this role.
