The Community Awareness and Engagement Specialist strengthens community connections, expands public awareness, and advances the mission of David Lawrence Centers for Behavioral Health (DLC) and the DLC Wellness Institute. Serving as a key ambassador for the organization, this role builds visibility for DLC's programs and services through strategic outreach, presentations, and relationship-building across Collier County and surrounding communities. Key responsibilities include:
- Community Representation & Outreach:
Represent DLC and the DLC Wellness Institute at community events, resource fairs, volunteer fairs, and outreach opportunities. Conduct presentations and informational sessions for community organizations, schools, businesses, civic groups, and faith-based partners to increase awareness of behavioral health services and wellness initiatives.
- Program Knowledge & Education: Serve as a subject-matter expert on all DLC programs and services, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of organizational initiatives, data trends, service highlights, and system changes. Educate community members and partners on available resources, referral pathways, and opportunities for engagement.
- Strategic Engagement & Relationship Management: Proactively build, manage, and strengthen relationships with community partners to support outreach, collaboration, and long-term engagement. Contribute to strategic outreach planning that aligns with the Wellness Institute's goals and complements programmatic efforts led by other team members.
- Data Tracking & Documentation: Accurately record and maintain community contacts, partnerships, and outreach activities in Raiser's Edge, ensuring timely documentation and supporting data-informed outreach planning and reporting.
- Volunteer & Advocacy Engagement: Serve as the liaison for the DLC Advocates and support volunteer engagement initiatives. Coordinate DLC representation at volunteer-focused events and collaborate with internal teams to align advocacy efforts with organizational priorities.
- Faith-Based & Initiative Support: Support and strengthen the Mindful Compassion initiative through collaboration with local faith-based organizations and community leaders, advancing culturally responsive outreach and engagement.
- Collaboration & Integrated Campaigns: Work closely with various DLC team members to support integrated awareness campaigns, outreach initiatives, and community education efforts.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's Degree in related fields (education, marketing, health/social services, communications, etc.) from accredited institution = Required
- 2+ years of business development, sales, community outreach and/or marketing experience = Required
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships with community groups and organizations
- Awareness and knowledge of behavioral health needs and wellness strategies for youth and adults = Required
- Ability to demonstrate superior stewardship and customer service skills both internally and externally = Required
- Ability to work with a wide variety of age groups = Required
- Comfort with and compassion shown with regard to diverse backgrounds and cultures = Required
- The ability to prioritize teamwork and working with others for a common goal, while being self-motivated to complete tasks independently = Required
- Previous experience with a non-profit or community behavioral health setting = Preferred
- Spanish Bilingual = Preferred
- A genuine interest in and passion for DLC's mission = Required
- Valid Florida Driver's License and clean driving record = Required
- Microsoft Office 365/Teams/Video Conferencing = Required
- Staying up to date with all trainings and immunizations = Required
- Ability to pass Level II DCF Mental Health Fingerprinting (General Information can be found HERE), Drug Screen and Local Criminal Check = Required
Physical Requirements:
This position requires a mix of physical activities throughout the workday. Duties involve periods of standing, sitting, and walking, often across various areas of the site. The role also includes tasks that may require bending, reaching, and other physical movements. Candidates must be able to occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. A reasonable level of physical stamina and mobility is necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of this role.
This role is essential to increasing the visibility, accessibility, and community trust of DLC and the Wellness Institute, ensuring that individuals, families, and partners are informed, connected, and engaged in behavioral health and wellness services.
