COMMUNITY EDUCATION SPECIALIST [Position # 1145]

We have an exciting new opportunity in behavioral health prevention and education! DLC is seeking a dynamic and highly organized professional to increase our community's understanding of mental health and substance use concerns.

This position will support other  DLC departments, work towards advancing DLC's mission and focus on networking to build partnerships with external organizations.

POSITION DETAILS:

- Utilizing strong public speaking skills, enthusiasm and research abilities to develop engaging training content/programs.

- Scheduling and coordinating prevention-focused activities for youth in the community with the support of the Advancement team.

- Researching and developing educational presentations to meet community requests under the direction of the Education & Prevention Manager.

- Cross-training with the Prevention Services Team to provide additional support in offering educational services for youth in the community.

- Creatively developing games and activities that will engage youth in learning valuable life skills.

- Facilitating Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) trainings in Collier and surrounding counties.*** 

- Undertaking additional certifications in other evidence-based content, as needed.

- Managing DLC listings in the Collier CARES app/website, including community events and trainings.

- Working closely with the Marketing Team to promote trainings and educational opportunities.

- Attending various community coalitions and groups with a youth focus to build partnerships and expand networks.

- Tabling community events to highlight DLC Youth/Prevention Services (in-person and virtual).

- Becoming a subject matter expert on DLC programs and referral processes.

- Promoting services in the community and linking individuals/referral partners with appropriate channels to receive care.

- Other duties as assigned by Education & Prevention Manager.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

- Bachelor's Degree in related field (education, marketing, advertising, communications, etc.) from accredited institution = Required

- Strong, efficient and emphatic public speaking skills = Required

- Knowledge of mental health challenges and substance use disorders = Required

- Ability to demonstrate superior stewardship and customer service skills both internally and externally = Required

- Ability to work with a wide variety of age groups = Required

- Comfort with and compassion shown with regard to diverse backgrounds and cultures = Required

- The ability to prioritize teamwork and working with others for a common goal, while being self-motivated to complete tasks independently = Required

- Previous experience with a non-profit or community behavioral health setting = Preferred

- Spanish Bilingual = Preferred

- Youth Mental Health First Aid Instructor Certification = Preferred (***If Instructor Certification is not yet obtained, applicant agrees to complete within 6 months of Employment Date).

- A genuine interest in and passion for DLC's mission = Required

- Valid Florida Driver's License and clean driving record = Required

- Microsoft Office 365/Teams/Video Conferencing = Required

- Staying up to date with all trainings and immunizations = Required

- Ability to pass a DCF Level II Mental Health Fingerprint Screening, Drug Test and local Criminal Check = Required

LOGISTICS & COMPENSATION:

- Full-Time Salaried/Exempt Position
~ Monday-Friday, Target Standard Business Hours
~ Occasional Night/Weekend hours needed for events; flex time provided
~ Local Travel (reimbursed) is required in Southwest Florida
~ Potential for hybrid work setting (in office and from home), when appropriate, after Initial Employment Period
