Our philanthropy fuels access to lifesaving mental health and substance use services for children, adults, families, and the broader community. This Director serves as the senior-most leader responsible for the design, leadership, and execution of DLC's annual, major, institutional, and events-based philanthropic programs during a period of significant organizational growth and transformation, and reports to the Vice President of Advancement.
- Critical role in ensuring these services remain accessible, innovative, and responsive to community needs by leading fundraising efforts with purpose, discipline, and heart.
- Leads with vision, compassion, and accountability-empowering teams, stewarding resources responsibly, and making evidence-informed decisions grounded in data, best practices, and a deep commitment to DLC's mission.
- Spearheads DLC's annual and ongoing fundraising efforts while actively participating in and aligning with capital campaign initiatives in close partnership with executive leadership to ensure donor clarity, organizational momentum, and long-term impact.
Key Responsibilities:
Philanthropic Strategy, Financial Stewardship & Fund Leadership
- Lead and execute an integrated philanthropic strategy that advances DLC's mission and grows the annual fund from approximately $5M to $7M, ensuring the organization can meet increasing community demand for behavioral health services.
- Provide strategic leadership across annual giving, major gifts, foundation and institutional support, and events-based fundraising, aligning philanthropic priorities with programmatic need and organizational growth.
- Actively participate in capital campaign strategy, donor engagement, and execution - bringing capital fluency, donor insight, and coordination - while maintaining focus on annual and ongoing philanthropic performance.
- Develop, manage, and monitor comprehensive fundraising budgets, ensuring responsible stewardship of donor resources and strong return on investment.
- Use data, dashboards, and performance trends to inform strategy, prioritize effort, and pivot thoughtfully when conditions or community needs change.
- Translate DLC's clinical impact, prevention efforts, and community outcomes into compelling, mission-driven, evidence-informed cases for support.
Donor Strategy, Analytics & Major Gifts Leadership
- Lead and strengthen individual giving programs, with a clear emphasis on major and leadership gifts, without minimizing mid-level giving, while cultivating authentic donor relationships grounded in trust, transparency, and shared purpose.
- Oversee direct mail and annual giving strategies that grow and sustain donor engagement without reliance on events as a primary revenue source.
- Personally manage a moderate portfolio of major and leadership donors, connecting donors to the real-world impact of their philanthropy on individuals and families served by DLC.
- Analyze donor pipelines and giving trends to guide forecasting, strategy refinement, and long-term relationship building.
- Provide strategic oversight and integration of planned giving efforts, ensuring long-term philanthropic opportunities are thoughtfully aligned with donor intent, organizational sustainability, and overall fundraising strategy.
- Navigate complex donor situations with clarity, compassion, and accountability-honoring donor intent while advancing organizational priorities.
Team Leadership, Empowerment & Performance Excellence
- Lead and support a robust development team, including advancement officers, a grant professional, an events manager, and a development operations manager, overseeing administrative and support staff.
- Model servant leadership by empowering, supporting, and uplifting team members-prioritizing their growth, well-being, and success while holding high standards for excellence and accountability.
- Establish clear goals, metrics, and expectations, using data and regular reporting to drive learning, ownership, and continuous improvement.
- Foster a culture where staff understand how their work directly supports access to care, quality services, and community well-being.
- Balance autonomy with structure-enabling agility while ensuring fundraising initiatives are delivered on time, on budget, and with care.
Institutional Giving & Cross-Advancement Collaboration
- Provide strategic oversight of institutional giving efforts, including foundations, grants, and corporate giving, aligning funding strategies with DLC's clinical programs, prevention initiatives, and education efforts.
- Collaborate closely with Marketing & Communications to ensure donor messaging reflects both outcomes and the human stories behind DLC's work.
- Partner with dotted line leaders overseeing Strategic Partnerships & Social Innovation and the DLC Wellness Institute to identify funding synergies that expand access, prevention, and community education.
- Serve as a connector across Advancement, translating innovation, impact, and outcomes into donor-relevant, evidence-based funding opportunities.
- Embrace collaboration and feedback-turning challenges into progress and ideas into measurable impact.
Organizational Leadership & Governance
- Serve as a senior leader within Advancement and an active member of DLC's Leadership Council.
- Contribute to organizational strategy, financial planning, and long-term sustainability with a focus on mission-driven growth.
- Communicate clearly and confidently with executive leadership regarding fundraising performance, trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Represent DLC with credibility, warmth, and professionalism-bringing heart-led impact and a commitment to a "wow" donor and community experience.
- Uphold ethical standards, financial integrity, and best practices across all philanthropic activity.
