Job Summary:
The Rehab Specialist is responsible for providing group-based therapeutic interventions for individuals in a mental health crisis unit. This role focuses on delivering structured psychoeducational and skills-based groups to promote stabilization, coping strategies, and recovery-oriented support. The specialist collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to ensure a safe and therapeutic environment for clients experiencing acute psychiatric distress.
Key Responsibilities:
Group Facilitation & Client Support
- Lead psychoeducational and skills-based groups, focusing on topics such as emotional regulation, coping skills, mindfulness, relapse prevention, and healthy relationships.
- Utilize evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI) to support clients in crisis.
- Adapt group content to meet the unique needs of clients with diverse mental health conditions, including mood disorders, anxiety, psychosis, and substance use concerns.
- Encourage participation and engagement while maintaining a supportive, nonjudgmental atmosphere.
- Address disruptive behaviors in a therapeutic manner, ensuring group safety and effectiveness.
Collaboration & Documentation
- Work closely with psychiatrists, therapists, case managers, and nursing staff to coordinate care and ensure continuity of treatment.
- Provide feedback to the treatment team regarding clients' participation, progress, and any observed needs or concerns.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of group participation, client progress, and any incidents in compliance with facility policies and regulatory standards.
Crisis Management & De-Escalation
- Recognize and respond effectively to crisis situations, utilizing de-escalation techniques and trauma-informed care principles.
- Assist in developing and reinforcing individualized coping strategies for clients experiencing acute distress.
- Ensure a safe and structured environment by monitoring group dynamics and addressing any safety concerns promptly.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, counseling, rehabilitation services, or a related field = Required or
Master's degree in clinical psychology, Social Work, Rehabilitation or other related field=Preferred
Experience: At least 1 year of experience working in mental health, crisis intervention, or substance use treatment, with experience facilitating groups=Required
Skills:
- Strong group facilitation and public speaking skills.
- Knowledge of mental health disorders, trauma-informed care, and recovery-oriented treatment.
- Ability to establish rapport and maintain professional boundaries.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
